What The World Eats

Hey All!

During my long hunt for interesting food pictures I came across this really awesome slideshow from TIME. Each picture details a different family's favorite foods and how much they spend on food in a week. The most fascinating part though, is that each family is from a different country. It's amazing to see how large (or how small) of a role food plays in a household budget and how very cultural of a thing that is.

It reminds me of a discussion I had with my gastronomy teacher... She said that she spends most of her earnings on high quality foods. Now, a lot of penny pinchers would think that it's a bit too extravagant to purchase such expensive foods (especially with this economy). But my teacher explained to me that when all is said and done, the most comforting and fulfilling parts of our day are during our meal times. Think about it. Breakfast is the engine starter for the day. Lunch is the relaxing break in between work or classes. Snack time is a much deserved break after a long day at work or school. Dinner time is family time. So why not spend those few extra dollars to get something that would make those moments really worthwhile?

  1. Your gastronomy teacher has the right idea! Living off crappy, bland and/or repetitive food can be really awful. Y'hear that RIT? Do ya hear meeeeee!?
