Mesa Grill: NYC

Hey All!

With Mesa Grill's celebrity chef status (it's owned by Bobbly Flay), expectations are high and the restaurant somewhat meets them. The ingredients are farm market fresh. The atmosphere is modern chic. The service is courteous enough. And the food. Well, it is rich, pricey, and overall decently delicious. If you decide to take the risk, go there hungry because the "okay" food is quite filling.

Food: 4/5
Atmosphere: 4.5/5
Service: 4/5
Price: $$$$/$$$$$ (Entrees are up to $35)

Overall Experience: My dad and I took my mum to the restaurant for her 50th birthday. We shared an appetizer; the baby romaine salad. The romaine was super crisp and fresh. The chorizo bits were a great salty and smoky addition. And the dressing was garlic heaven. For the main course, my dad ordered the southwestern spice duck. It was cooked to perfection; tender, slightly pink in the middle, and moist. The chorizo, goat cheese tamale side was probably the tastiest thing I had that night. Smoky, salty, tangy, and paired with the spicy and sweet sauce it was the ultimate explosion for my taste buds. For my main course, I had the New Mexican spice rubbed pork tenderloin. It is the most popular item on the menu and I completely understand why. The meat as so tender, the knife cut through it like butter. And with the sauce, it was divine. My only complaint was that there wasn't enough sauce on my plate. For my mum's main course, she had the green chile cioppino. The soup was extremely tasty. The seafood was super fresh. And it was overall pretty damn delicious, especially for a seafood lover like my mum. Finally, for dessert we had the warm apple pie. It was decent. Not the best dessert I've ever had. But it was edible. All in all, it was a special dinner with my parents but made so because of my mum's birthday, not necessarily the food. I would go back, mainly for the duck though...

Bis Morgen!

  1. Everything sounds so delicious! As for Bobby Flay, I can't watch Iron Chef without getting hungry. It's terrible.
