Late Night

Hey All!

I meant to post something earlier but unfortunately my poor sleeping habits prevented me from doing so. Not only did those habits prevent me from writing a new entry, they also kept me from my other favorite meal of the day: dinner. Yep. That's right. A crappy lunch followed by a dinner that should have been a snack. Just the kind of day that a self proclaimed foodie loves. To give you an idea of what I mean here's what I ate for lunch:
chicken and bacon sandwich

Hahaha! Sike! If I had a lunch like that, I wouldn't have much to complain about, huh? Seriously though, this is what I really had for lunch:

Gross, right? Yeah... Now, here's what I had for dinner:

Not much better... Healthier at least. But definitely nowhere near satisfying. Here's what my dinner should have been:
Turkey Spinach Stuffed Shells

Tastier looking, huh? Well, there's always tomorrow...

Cracked's List of Scary Restaurants

Hey All!

I was stumbling again when I came across this article, http://www.cracked.com/blog/9-restaurants-designed-to-ruin-your-appetite/. Who knew toilets, maximum security prisons, and bestiality would make for such successful restaurant concepts? I personally didn't. Give this article a read and you'll discover just how crazy people are when it comes to food.

Also, which of these nine restaurants would you try? Be honest. I won't tease you. Much. Leave your answer in the comment box below and maybe I'll reveal my pick!

BRILLIANT

Hey All!

So I stumbled upon this great food blog the other day and just wanted to share this one particular entry.
http://makinglifedelicious.com/2011/01/01/new-year-new-dessert-chocolate-pecan-piecake-goes-to-11/?utm_source=link&utm_medium=ffp&utm_campaign=ffp

To sum it up quickly, CAKE + PIE = GENIUS. Yes, you read correctly. CAKE + PIE. This fellow food blogger baked an entire pecan pie inside of a chocolate cake! A bit crazy, huh? A whole lot indulgent, right? I mean it's a pie baked inside of a cake. A PIE BAKED INSIDE OF A CAKE. Excuse my immense excitement but I think this revolutionizes the idea of indulgence. No longer will we think of eating an entire red velvet cake as being too decadent nor devouring a whole pint of Ben and Jerry's Half Baked as being over excessive. Instead, we will consider this "pake" or "cpie" (you try combining the words cake and pie...) the ultimate king/queen of indulgence. And all I have to say is, BRING IT ON.

P.S.  Which flavors of pie and cake do you think would go well together? Leave your answers in the comment box below.

Afternoon Classes (Continued...)

Hey All!
I love lunch so much I decided to dedicate another blog entry to it. Either that or I just wasn’t finished with my rant about having afternoon classes. So to continue from the last post...
The dining hall here closes their doors at 2PM and reopen at 5PM. The grill that is under the dining hall opens their doors at 2PM. They remain open until 10PM. I finish class at 3PM. As you can see, the only choice I have for lunch is the grill.
Now, eating pizza, burgers, grilled chicken sandwiches, and fries every day for lunch sounds like a teenager’s dream. Sorry to bust this dream but eating all those greasy, fatty foods is not all that it’s hyped up to be. Two weeks of the unhealthiest diet on the planet (aka the American fast food diet) and I feel fat, lazy, and slobbish. Oh, how I long for a salad that isn’t covered in too much dressing and cheese. And perhaps some fruit that isn’t an apple or an orange...

Afternoon Classes

Hey All!

I'm pretty sure we can all agree that afternoon classes are pretty wonderful. However, like all good things there are some negative aspects to having afternoon classes.

Perks of Afternoon Classes:
-Sleeping in late
-More time to slack/do homework
-No trudging in the 3 feet deep snow that hasn't been cleared yet

Cons of Afternoon Classes:
-THEY'RE DURING LUNCHTIME!!!

So, of course I am speaking from personal experience. After tiring of waking up early, I decided that this semester all my classes were going to be in the afternoon. Lucky me, got my wish. It only took the first two days of school and a couple of classes where everyone was wondering where this large growling sound was coming from for me to realize that afternoon classes were a mistake. Oh, how I miss lunch! It is my favorite meal of the day along with dinner (granted I only eat two meals a day but I digress...). Now, you all are probably thinking: "Why not just eat earlier?" OR "Why not pack a bagged lunch?" And to you I say SEE PERKS. Eating earlier or packing bagged lunches are simply not an option. I just have to plod on, growling stomach and all. But let this be a lesson to you all. Afternoon classes begin to lose their appeal when your stomach becomes involved.

WOAH

Hey All!

I can't believe how long it has been since my last post... So much for keeping you all updated every week, huh? I just wanted to apologize to my loyal readers (and possibly new ones) and I hope that you can all forgive me for such horrific blogging behavior.

Apologies aside, I have had an interesting first month of the new year. I got accepted to two short term study abroad programs (one in Spain and one in Germany) and my favorite cousin is getting married! I'm not quite sure which one I'm more excited about and before you say "Pick the one with the best food," let me just say I spent many hours making lists comparing the foods at each event and came to the conclusion that I am a food-driven, food-obsessed creature who seriously needs to find some better way of deciding which one I'm more excited about.

Anyhow, I'm taking a great class this semester called Environmental Studies 101. Although it covers the broad spectrum of environmental issues, there is a large focus on agriculture and food production. (YAY!) Here's a link that I came across while doing research for this course that I think you all will find very useful.
